South Shields watercolour artist Brian Patterson has been painting on and off for most of his life. Changed work patterns as a maths teacher a few years ago, meant he had a bit more time to spend on his art.
Brian paints mainly in watercolour to help capture the subtleties in the lights and the seascapes. He occasionally also uses pencil.
His main subjects are birds on the river, views of the sea and local landscapes. He also likes to capture local focal points at different times, with various sunsets or sunrises when the light changes.
Brian goes out every morning to capture the latest shot for his next painting. He says he feels very lucky to be doing what he's doing.
