Jean is a textile designer, based at Stockton-On-Tees. She is a member of the Guild of Silk Painters,   and creates a range of products using her hand-painted silks.

She says it's the intensity of the colour and the element of surprise, that silk painting brings. After hand-painting the silk she then fixes the dyes with steam. "There is a fascination involved with seeing how a piece I'm working on ends up, as there is limited control over the process."

At the moment her range includes silk scarves, jewellery and purses. She has also used her silk to created lamps and lampshades.

She's even fused the silk onto glass bowls and vases. Recently she was commissioned to created silk covered in glass kitchen splash backs. (Read more about this on our Spotlight On page)
