KATHRYN LYALL

Northumberland artist Kathryn Lyall has drawn and painted since she was a child. Every year for Christmas she would ask for giant packs of felt tip pens in every colour.
Self-taught and still painting, today she uses mainly acrylics for her work, though she still occasionally uses pencil.
She says she is at her happiest when she can obsess over the tiny details of a painting. Kathryn loves finding all the different colours to give a piece depth and make it pop.
She says whenever doing a commission of a beloved pet, she spends most time on the eyes.
"It's vitally important to get their character just right and their eyes have to be able to follow you around the room".
