RUSSELL YATES

Painter and digital artist Russell Yates paints instinctively using various implements to lay down bold lines and bursts of colour.
He works in acrylic, oils and spray paint to add different dimensions and layers.
Based on Tyneside, his work is generated by his perspective on landscapes, urbanisation and emotions, with a significant part of it relating to his own personal journey with mental health issues, disability and pleasure.
Russell says he wants his work to openly challenge the viewers own perspective and understanding of their fluctuating moods and health.
"The difference in an everyday space is that it can be used to make every day different."
He explains, "It is you, as an individual, who can evolve and make what is good for yourself".
