Ali is a ceramicist, based at Hexham in Northumberland. After graduating in art and ceramics she went on to teach in primary education.  It was only after taking early retirement that she was able to spend more time in her pottery studio. She now spends her time creating small scale ceramic sculpture based on her immediate environment and relationships with the surrounding landscape and family. She likes to combine words and poetry with the colours and textures of local land and seascapes, using a variety of techniques, including digital transfer. Ali also enjoys the somewhat surreal creations of Italian ceramists Bertozzi and Casoni and attempts to reflect the humour and juxtapositions of their work in some of her pieces.
