Catherine Glennie
Catherine is a self-taught textile artist - originally from County Durham, she now lives at Ullapool in Scotland. Her intricately stitched textile studies zoom into fragments of the natural world - inspired by the landscape surrounding her home. She often uses mixed media, including paints and natural dyes in her pieces.
Catherine says she operates with a no rules kind of thought process, playing in her work and bringing feelings to the pieces. She doesn't start with any plans or sketch book drawings.
"Each piece defines itself. It’s a fun way to work," says Catherine, who explains that lichens are one of her favourite subjects and has displayed some of her pieces for the British Lichen Society at the Natural History Museum.
